Titanium Dioxide Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance Secretary-General, National Chemical Industry Productivity Promotion Center Titanium Dioxide Branch Director Bi Sheng pointed out that after more than 20 years of rapid development from 1998 to 2020, the scale and quality of the titanium dioxide industry has been comprehensively improved. Since 2009, the production scale of titanium dioxide in China has ranked first in the world. Today, China's sulfuric acid titanium dioxide main products are gradually to the high-end development, and international products of the same type, whether it is the production process, production equipment and product quality gap has been very small, fully catch up with or even more than the international sulfuric acid products just around the corner.

According to reports, in 2020, China's titanium dioxide industry has normal production conditions, a total of 42 full-process manufacturers above the scale. The effective total production capacity of titanium dioxide in the whole industry is 4.2 million tons/year, the total output is 3.512 million tons, and the average capacity utilization rate of the industry is 83.62/%. The comprehensive output of all kinds of titanium dioxide and related products of 42 full-process titanium dioxide production enterprises nationwide was 3.512 million tons, an increase of 330000 tons or 10.37 percent over the same period last year. The rutile type is 2.856 million tons, accounting for 81.31 per cent, the anatase type is 538000 tons, accounting for 15.33 per cent, the non-pigment grade is 60000 tons, accounting for 1.71 per cent, and the catalytic and functional materials are 58000 tons, accounting for 1.65 per cent.

Bi Sheng said that according to the implementation of existing enterprises in the industry to expand production and new projects, in 2021, the industry will add about 500000 tons/year, further increasing the total production capacity to about 4.7 million tons/year. In the context of the overall acceleration of domestic economic development and the gradual improvement of the international economic environment, the titanium dioxide industry will continue to maintain a good momentum of development in 2021. It is predicted that the annual output will be 380-3.9 million tons in 2021, an increase of 30-400000 tons year-on-year.

In the open a number of ongoing expansion or new titanium dioxide projects, in addition to a few by the end of 2021 will be completed or basically completed projects, the industry in the next 1-2 years there are at least 8 projects will be completed and put into operation (mainly sulfuric acid method), its comprehensive scale of 700000 tons/year or more, at that time, the total scale of titanium dioxide production in China will reach about 5.4 million tons/year (excluding the expansion plan of chlorination method). Under the premise that foreign manufacturers have no expansion plans, China's total production capacity of titanium dioxide will account for about 60% of the global total production capacity. Even according to the average capacity utilization rate of 83%-85% in recent years, the annual output of titanium dioxide will reach 450-4.6 million tons.
